The TAC has joined the Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing Martin Foley, the Municipal Association of Victoria and other like-minded organisations in committing to an age-friendly Victoria.

On behalf of the TAC, Senior Manager Road Safety Samantha Cockfield signed an Age-Friendly Victoria Declaration: Statement of Support and Partner Endorsement as part of the launch of the Commissioner for Senior Victorian's report Ageing is everyone's business. At the same event, the Victorian Government formally signed the Age-Friendly Declaration with the Municipal Association of Victoria.

The Ageing is everyone's business reportby the Commissioner Gerard Mansour reveals that social isolation and loneliness is a significant issue for Victoria's ageing population. The newly launched Age-Friendly Victoria initiative is part of the Government's response, recognising that age-friendly communities encourage active ageing and boost good health, security and community participation for Victorian seniors.

The TAC's commitment is to promote the inclusion of older people in our thinking and practices to enhance the quality of life for people as they age.

This means creating a safe system for our ageing population, by improving road infrastructure, encouraging uptake of vehicle technologies, ensuring safe, appropriate speeds and encouraging responsible road use.

Initiatives like safer local streets for pedestrians and encouraging the uptake of safer vehicles will ensure that we protect these vulnerable road users from death and serious injury on the roads.
