What we do

The TAC pays benefits to people injured in transport accidents.  Working closely with our road safety partners, the TAC also actively campaigns to reduce the incidence of road trauma through accident prevention programs.

Transport Accident Charge

Motorists in Victoria pay a transport accident charge as part of their registration. This charge funds the TAC, and pays for treatment and support services for people injured in transport accidents.

Board of Management

The TAC is a Victorian-government owned organisation guided by a Board of Management.  The BoM comprises experienced and respected Directors from across the Victorian community.

Research

Working in partnership with other like organisations, the TAC undertakes and supports research with two focusses - to improve outcomes for our clients and to help reduce road trauma in Victoria.

Freedom of Information

The TAC is subject to the Victorian Freedom of Information Act 1982 which gives any person the right to access information.  Our FOI team can assist you with FOI requests.

The TAC is committed to protecting the funds and other assets placed under its control and protection for the benefit of the people of Victoria, and will not tolerate fraudulent or corrupt activities.

Legislation

The TAC is governed by Victorian legislation that sets out the type of benefits and services it can pay, and any conditions that apply. This legislation is called the Transport Accident Act 1986.
