Terms and Conditions

The terms and conditions of the TAC's student competitions are as follows:

1. The competitions start at 9am on 1 March 2016 and finish at 5pm on Friday 16 September 2016.

2. Entry is restricted to students who are: 

  • enrolled at a secondary school located in Victoria, Australia;
  • completing Year 9, Year 10 or VCE or VCAL; and
  • not an employee, or related to an employee, of the TAC or one of its agencies connected with this competition, during the period of the competitions (Eligible Student).

3. All competition entries must be submitted on behalf of the Eligible Student by their secondary school. Each secondary school may only submit a maximum of three entries per Prize Category.

4. The Prize Categories are:

  • best piece of writing by a Year 9 or Year 10 student at a secondary school located in metropolitan Melbourne;
  • best piece of writing by a Year 9 or Year 10 student at a secondary school located in regional Victoria;
  • best piece of writing by a VCE or VCAL student at a secondary school located in metropolitan Melbourne;
  • best piece of writing by a VCE or VCAL student at a secondary school located in regional Victoria,
  • best piece of Art/design material from a Year 9 or Year 10 student located in metropolitan Melbourne;
  • best piece of Art/design material from a Year 9 or Year 10 student located in regional Victoria;
  • best piece of Art/design material from a VCE or VCAL student located in metropolitan Melbourne; and
  • best piece of Art/design material from a VCE or VCAL student located in regional Victoria.

5. The TAC will determine in its sole discretion which secondary schools are in metropolitan Melbourne and which secondary schools are in regional Victoria.

6. To enter the secondary school must:

  • ensure each Eligible Student's written piece:
    • is between 500 and 700 words in length,
    • clearly identifies the form of writing that has been adopted for their piece (i.e. creative/imaginative, persuasive or expository), and
    • complies with the current Student Writing Competition Guidelines (available at: www.tac.vic.gov.au); or
  • ensure each Eligible student's art/design piece:
    • focuses on an aspect of road safety
    • aligns with curriculum in the following areas:
      • Middle School Art, Information Technology, Media, Photography, Visual Communication Design
      • VCE Art
      • VCE Media
      • VCE Studio Arts
      • VCE Visual Communication Design
      • VCAL learning outcomes
  • save each eligible student's piece electronically in PDF and/or word format with the following information clearly labelled on each file:
    • name of the Eligible Student;
    • label 'Writing' or 'Art/Design';
    • year level of the Eligible Student;
    • school name and teacher contact details of the Eligible Student
