Drive Safely Because – Local Government pilot program

The TAC has partnered with two Victorian Local Governments to pilot a road safety program in their shires using signs and messaging to humanise road safety and encourage people to take ownership of road safety in their community.

The details:

  • The pilots are localised campaigns aimed at curbing road trauma.
  • The TAC has worked with the shires to look at road safety priorities – particularly around protecting children, pedestrians and bicycle riders.
  • It is a reminder to people to slow down and drive safely in their community as they are sharing the road with friends, family, visitors and others on local roads.
  • The 6-week long campaign features on-street signs and activations via local business, farmers markets, sporting clubs and schools.

Next steps:

  • Two pilots have been held – the Surf Coast Shire from March to May 2021 and Mornington Peninsula Shire from May until mid July.
  • The data from both pilot programs will be evaluated.
