Local councils, primary schools and community groups were well represented, along with registered groups under the Victorian Community Road Safety Partnership.
Applications in Round 14 were of a generally high standard, including better supporting data and suitable road safety partners. The increasing popularity and presence of the Community Road Safety Grants Program reinforces the importance of applicants developing high quality and well researched applications to increase their chance of success.
Applicants are encouraged to view the range of guidelines relating to the Community Road Safety Grants Program, available online at www.tac.vic.gov.au/crsg, for comprehensive information and tips to support the preparation of high quality applications.
In the fourteen rounds of the grants program, the TAC has now:

New guidelines for Breathalyser, Variable Messaging Sign (VMS), and Community Road Safety Strategy (RSS) projects
In order to support applicants to achieve the best possible road-safety outcomes from their projects, the Department of Justice and the TAC completed reviews of three common programs that have been funded through the Community Road Safety Grants Program since its inception. These were:
- Breathalyser programs;
- Community Road Safety Strategy programs; and
- The usage of Variable Messaging Signs (VMS).
Findings from these reviews have been used to inform the development of new guidelines to ensure community groups develop applications that are based on good practice.
The reviews provided valuable insight into the most important features to be included in projects to encourage the most positive road safety outcomes. The new guidelines can be found on the Community Road Safety Grant Program website at www.tac.vic.gov.au/crsg.
The TAC will contact relevant groups and stakeholders from Round 14 to discuss and provide the new guidelines.
The TAC's new LGA grants program
As part of Victoria's Road Safety Strategy 2013-2022, a new grants program to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety has been established. The guidelines are now complete for the TAC's new Local Government Area (LGA) Small-scale Infrastructure Grants Program. The grants program will provide $:$ funding to local councils of up to $100,000 for projects that relate to low cost infrastructure treatment options focussing on improving pedestrian and cyclist safety. This new grants project will aim to make our roads safer for everyone, especially our most vulnerable road users: pedestrians and cyclists.
The first round of LGA grants will close on 29 August 2014.
Further information regarding the LGA grants program will be provided to city councils and is also available online at: http://www.tac.vic.gov.au/lgagrants.
