Parliamentary Inquiry: Government response supports ongoing improvements for TAC clients

A statement from TAC CEO Tracey Slatter.

This week, the Victorian Government responded to the recommendations of the Parliamentary Inquiry into claims made through the TAC, fully supporting all recommendations and recognising the significant work already underway to improve the experience and outcomes for TAC clients.

I'd like to thank the Committee, our clients, advocates, health professionals and other stakeholders who contributed their experiences and expertise throughout the Inquiry.

Today marks an important step forward in response to one of the Inquiry's recommendations, with Parliament passing amendments to the Transport Accident Act 1986 that will strengthen financial support for dependent children who lose a parent in a transport accident.

The changes will double the weekly allowance available to eligible children and extend access to annual education support payments, benefiting more than 850 children currently supported by the TAC when they take effect in November.

The experiences shared through the Inquiry have been invaluable. Behind every TAC claim is a person, and every recovery journey is different. While many people have positive experiences through the TAC scheme, we recognise that those with severe or complex injuries can face greater challenges navigating the system.

We will continue listening to our clients and providers to guide ongoing improvements, while working closely with the Victorian Government to implement the recommendations to improve outcomes for all Victorians impacted by road trauma.
