We acknowledge the Robinson family’s courage, in sharing the experience of losing their son with the community.

The Robinsons were the integral part of our Ripple Effect campaign and Mr Robinson continues to be involved with the TAC.

Mr Robinson has recently completed a telephone claim interview for nervous shock. Once his signed claim form has been received, TAC staff will assess that claim’s eligibility and advise Mr Robinson of the outcome as soon as possible.

Claim process

Where an injury may have manifested some time after an accident, then the claim application can be assessed from the time of that manifestation.

If someone affected by the death of a close family member, develops a mental injury as a result, then they are eligible for assistance. The three year limit would apply, from the time that injury developed, not from the time of the crash.

TAC staff will assess, in accordance with our obligations under the Transport Accident Act, whether this applies to Norm Robinson’s case when the signed claim forms are received.

Background

In mid-2012 Norm was advised by TAC that the family counselling available, in relation to the claim in Luke’s name, was soon to reach its cap.

At that time, it was understood that Mr Robinson may have needed further grief counselling, and he was recommended to Road Trauma Support Services for further counselling.
