The Transport Accident Commission has mobilised staff to support anyone affected by today’s Bourke Street Mall tragedy.

TAC chief executive officer Joe Calafiore said teams had been dispatched to the Royal Melbourne, Alfred and Royal Children’s hospitals to offer assistance to those injured in the incident, family members and witnesses.

“This tragedy will affect many in the Victorian community and our thoughts are with each of those people at this time,” Mr Calafiore said.

“We will be keeping a presence at Melbourne’s major trauma hospitals over the weekend to ensure that those people have access to all the support they need,” Mr Calafiore said.

“We need people to focus on their own wellbeing and recovery and sometimes that means just providing reassurance that we will be there to support them through this entire process.”

Anyone injured in today’s incident should call the TAC on 1300 654 329.

Anyone who witnessed the tragedy or its aftermath and needs support is encouraged to call Road Trauma Support Services Victoria on 1300 367 797 or Lifeline on 13 11 14
