What your rating means
After the TAC calculates your impairment rating using information obtained from your examination, we will write to you explaining the result.
Impairment ratings of 10% or less
If you are assessed as having an impairment rating of 10% or less, by law you are not eligible for an impairment benefit. Rating under 10% should not affect other TAC benefits you are receiving. The TAC may use the information provided in the reports to better respond to your treatment needs. Please call the TAC on 1300 654 329 if you have any questions about your impairment rating.
Impairment ratings of 11% or more
Adults assessed as having an impairment rating of 11% or more will receive a one-off, lump sum payment. The exact amount depends upon your level of impairment and the date of your transport accident.
Children who rate 11% or more will receive a small weekly benefit payable until they turn 18. At 18 years, the child may be asked to attend an impairment examination to work out their entitlement to an adult lump sum benefit.
The TAC will write to you with your impairment rating and the amount of the lump sum or, in the case of children, weekly payment.
Payment will be made directly into your nominated bank account usually within seven working days of the decision.
