Policy
Where the pregnancy was terminated as a direct result of injuries sustained in a transport accident, the TAC will fund the reasonable cost of the termination.

Guidelines
What does the TAC require in order to fund the reasonable cost of the pregnancy termination?
The TAC requires written confirmation from an Obstetrician, Gynaecologist or other medical specialist outlining how the need for the termination was a result of the transport accident injuries.
How will the TAC fund the cost of pregnancy termination?
The TAC will fund the cost of pregnancy termination in line with the MBS item number.
Can the TAC fund pregnancy termination services performed by a member of a client's immediate family?
Refer to the Funding Treatment by a Member of a Client's Immediate Family policy.
What will the TAC not fund?
The TAC will not fund:

treatment or services that are not directly related to injuries sustained by a client in a transport accident

treatment or services where there is no objective evidence that a treatment or service is safe and effective

the cost of telephone calls and telephone consultations between providers and clients, and between other providers, including hospitals

treatment or services provided outside the Commonwealth of Australia
- treatment or services provided more than 2 years prior to the request for funding except where the request for payment is made within 3 years of the transport accident. Refer to the Time Limit to Apply for the Payment of Medical and Like Expenses policy.
