A new approach to working with the TAC

03 Mar 2017

Changes the TAC is making to how it works with the health and disability sector was the topic of Head of Supported Recovery, Damian Poel’s, speech at the Australian Medical Association Congress over the weekend.

Damian introduced the TAC’s new strategic approach and its commitment to becoming the world’s leading social insurer to congress attendees.

“TAC2020 is a people strategy and aims to provide world-leading care for people hurt on the roads and restore Victoria’s status as the global leader in road safety. We are working differently with our partners and more closely with the Victorian community,” Damian said.

He also talked about some changes happening this year to reduce the administrative burden on our stakeholders, with the introduction of two new technologies - a digital point-of-sale system that allows service providers to send an invoice directly to the TAC for prompt payment, and a smart-phone app that will allow TAC clients to interact with the TAC in much simpler ways.

Damian also spoke about the need to find innovative solutions to the complex problems TAC clients face in getting their lives back on track.

“We recognise that while TAC clients are a small number of your overall patients, the issues and problems they face are universal. Mental health issues, persistent pain, lack of health literacy - these are problems faced by patients across the healthcare sector. And we are looking to tackle these problems in a different way than we’ve done in the past.” he said.

Following the launch of its strategy last year, the TAC is now seeking input and feedback from stakeholders into how it can meet its strategic objectives.

“We want to hear your ideas on how we can fix the complex issues that face our clients and those in the community suffering from chronic pain. We want to work with you to design a model of healthcare and service delivery that is focussed on outcomes,” Damian said.
