Updated fees for Joint Medical Examinations

Updated TAC Protocols will go into effect on 30 March 2026. A new fee schedule will be introduced for Joint Medical Examinations (JMEs) in line with the Joint Medical Examination Protocol 2026.

To allow for a transition period, the new JME fee schedule will not apply until 1 July 2026. From this date, the TAC will pay JME fees in line with the published fee schedule.

The JME fee schedule has been developed following an extensive review of current market rates, in consultation with the TAC's JME Reference Group, with a view to supporting access to JMEs while ensuring fees remain reasonable and sustainable.

From 1 July 2026, where an examiner is unable to meet the eligibility criteria set out in clause 4.3 of the Joint Medical Examination Protocol 2026, including adherence to the TAC’s JME Examinations and Reports Fee Schedule, the examiner should notify the referring party as soon as practicable. In these circumstances, the examination cannot proceed as a Joint Medical Examination. The client’s lawyer may elect to proceed by way of an Independent Medical Examination or make alternative arrangements with another examiner of the same discipline who meets the JME eligibility criteria.

The fees below will be revised on 1 July 2026 through annual indexation.
