These guidelines should be read in conjunction with the information at Working with the TAC.
Who can provide interpreting services?
You can provide interpreting services if you an interpreter who is accredited by the National Accreditation Authority of Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) to a qualification equal to, or higher than, Level III.
Interpreters accredited at this level are able to convey the full meaning from a source language into the target language, in the appropriate style and register.
What we can pay for
We can help pay the reasonable costs of interpreting services to:
- allow your client to access medical, rehabilitation and disability services directly related to transport accident injuries
- assist your client or their family during an assessment or review of services, such as assisting them to understand their progress and any additional supports required
- assist your client and a case manager to develop and implement an independence plan
- support your client when they are on a return to work program approved by us, or participating in a vocational program funded by us, to facilitate their return to work
- support your client's attendance at independent/impairment medical exams arranged by us
- aid your client's attendance at a public hospital outpatient service
- assist your client in hospital to understand our claims lodgement process and how to gain access to our benefits
- verbally translate the contents of letters from us, using a telephone interpreter service
- allow your client to comply with requirements of the impairment, dispute or common law protocol agreements
How much we can pay
We can help pay for services in line with our Interpreting services fees.
What we cannot pay for
We cannot pay for:
- attendance at your client's appointment with a plaintiff solicitor, unless it is necessary to enable them to provide information to comply with the requirements of the impairment, dispute or common law protocol agreements
- services included as part of a contractual agreement with the service provider
- services included in the hospital bed fee
- services performed by an unaccredited provider or subcontractor
