TAC Road Safety Grant Program

Road safety is everyone's responsibility. Those within the community may be best placed to identify specific problems and implement solutions relevant to their unique communities.

The TAC Road Safety Grant Program provides funding to support the development and implementation of community-based road safety projects.

DTP Community Road Safety Grant Program Transition to TAC

From 2027, the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP)'s Community Road Safety Grants Program will transition to the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and be incorporated into the TAC's existing road safety grant offerings.

The aim is to make it easier for community groups, local government authorities and schools to identify suitable funding opportunities for projects that aim to improve road safety outcomes across Victoria.

Why is the change happening?

  • Make it easier to find and access suitable road safety funding opportunities.
  • Reduce confusion by consolidating two community grant programs into a single program delivered by one government agency.
  • Provide a consistent, straightforward experience for groups applying for funding.
  • Enable a more coordinated approach to improving road safety outcomes across Victoria.

What does this mean for potential applicants?

Beginning with the 2027 grant round:

  • Community road safety grants previously offered through DTP will be available through the TAC.
  • Updated TAC Road Safety Grant Program funding guidelines will be published on the TAC website in February.
  • A briefing session will also be held in February, and pre-application support will be provided to help applicants understand the new program and to support the submission of applications aligned with the program guidelines.
  • Applicants will continue to apply through SmartyGrants.
