Round 6 approved projects
Of 30 applications received in Round 6, the TAC has approved 20 projects, totalling more than $360,000 in grants. As in previous rounds, a diverse range of community organisations submitted applications including sporting clubs/associations, service clubs, local government, RoadSafe groups and schools.
The Assessment Panel emphasises the need for community groups to develop high quality applications by:
- Carefully reading the guidelines and completing the application form in full
- Ensuring you have obtained partners to your project
- Demonstrating the road safety issue through evidence and data
- Identify the road safety issue and target group
- Include local crash data on the issue
- Use research to support the effectiveness of the proposed road safety solution
- Setting realistic timelines to conduct your project
- Outlining a plan for sustainability
- Including how you propose to measure the impact of your project
In six rounds of the grants program, the TAC has now:
- Received 188 applications
- Approved 127 projects
- Committed around $2.2 million in grants.

New Nitewise toolkit
The TAC has funded several community bus pilots to assist local groups in deciding whether ongoing services are viable and to determine the most appropriate funding option to continue a service.
To support communities, the TAC has engaged Peninsula Partnerships to develop an online toolkit to support community groups to develop local road safety projects.
The first phase of the tool kit has a focus on implementing projects to address drink driving issues such a late-night bus services, particularly in outer metropolitan and regional communities. The toolkit is based on the successful Frankston pilot funded in Round 2 of the TAC Community Road Safety Grants Program and provides step-by-step guides and materials for establishing a Nitewise service.
