Getting Victorians home safely

Published date: 13 Mar 2026

We’re making sure Victorians get home safely by helping Victoria Police crackdown on dangerous driving.

The TAC’s renewed Enhanced Enforcement Program will invest an additional $18 million into Victoria Police.

This will support police to crack down on unsafe drivers beyond their standard day‑to‑day operations.

This four‑year funding will boost police resources to target high‑risk behaviours like speeding and impaired driving.

The Victorian Government is making sure police have the resources they need to target the areas with the highest risk of road trauma, such as urban arterial roads and high-speed roads in rural areas.

Through this program, Operation Colossus has already delivered high‑volume alcohol and drug testing on the Monash Freeway, detecting 37 drink and drug‑drivers in two nights.

Over the past four years, more than $15 million has been invested through the program.

This has funded 180,000 extra police hours, over one million roadside alcohol and drug tests, and detecting more than 114,000 traffic offences.

This follows an announcement in December of an additional $21.1 million for road policing operations, delivering more roadside drug tests and improved technology for police enforcement on the roads.

These road policing investments are in addition to the $1.1 billion under the Victorian Road Strategy 2021-2030, which aims to halve the number of deaths on our roads by 2030.
