The Victorian Government is making life easier and safer – with new funding to help keep families safe while out on the road.
Local councils can now apply for grants through the 2026 TAC Local Government Grant Program, supporting projects that save lives on Victorian roads.
Pedestrians and cyclists are Victoria’s most vulnerable road users – and most at risk on local, council-managed roads.
The grants will deliver smoother and safer journeys for families.
Four funding streams are available:
- Infrastructure grants of up to $100,000 to reduce crashes involving pedestrians and cyclists
- Analysis grants of up to $30,000 to investigate local safety issues and develop solutions
- Road Safety Strategy grants of up to $50,000 to develop a Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan
- Variable message signs grants of up to $30,000 to support road user awareness.
Last year, 46 grants were awarded across 37 councils. Projects included:
- Delivering a new wombat crossing near Albert Park College
- Raised safety platforms in Melton
- A new Road Safety Strategy for Swan Hill Rural City Council.
An online briefing session will be held on Thursday, 18 June, with pre-application support available to all councils. For more information, visit tac.vic.gov.au/about-the-tac/community/grants/local-government-grants.
