In 2009 the TAC, through the former Victorian Neurotrauma Initiatives program, awarded a total of $19 million to four innovative research programs looking into the complications of neurotrauma.  These four programs are comprised of 30 different research departments of universities and hospitals in Victoria, across Australia and in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Canada.

Three programs focus on spinal cord injury research, while one focuses on translating previous investment in traumatic brain injury research into the clinical setting.
