Hand Therapy fees

New hand therapy fees from 1 July 2026

A new TAC fee schedule for hand therapy services will come into effect on 1 July 2026.

Codes and rates in this schedule must be used for all hand therapy services delivered to TAC clients across Australia from 1 July 2026.

This fee schedule applies to any AHPRA registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist who delivers hand therapy to TAC clients and brings parity across hand therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy. Accreditation with the Australian Hand Therapy Association is not required in order to use this fee schedule and associated policy.

This schedule includes a simple fee structure and clear item descriptors.

Providers will need to update billing systems to reflect the new fee codes and rates.

The easiest way to bill the TAC is via the HICAPS Digital platform. More information about invoicing the TAC is available on our website.

Services delivered prior to 1 July 2026 can still be billed at the occupational therapy or physiotherapy rates via HICAPS or manual billing.

Previously, occupational therapy providers may have billed hand therapy services using codes from the occupational therapy fee schedule (Tier One and Tier Two). From 1 July 2026, these codes will no longer be available. You will receive ‘outside of service definition date’ remittance advice if you have used an item code that is no longer available. Providers who receive this should:

  • Resubmit the invoice manually or via HICAPS using the new hand therapy item codes below.
  • Update your system with item codes from the new hand therapy fee schedule.

New hand therapy policy now available

A new Hand Therapy Policy, effective 1 June 2026, is available on our website. The policy helps everyone better understand what’s expected when working with the TAC. There’s no change to how you practice; the policy simply makes requirements clearer and easier to follow, reducing uncertainty and back‑and‑forth communication.
