Physiotherapy fees

Changes to the TAC physiotherapy fee schedule

We are updating our fee schedule and increasing published fees for physiotherapy services. The new schedule will offer greater clarity for providers and make the billing process more efficient.

The new TAC fee schedule for physiotherapy services will be in place from Monday 1 February 2026. Please continue to use the current TAC fee schedule below for services delivered until 11:59pm on 31 January 2026.

The updated fee schedule applies to all physiotherapy providers across Australia and will:

  • Consolidate the number of item codes from 45 down to 20.
  • include clear item code descriptions.
  • assign a reasonable rate to each item code.
  • align all physiotherapy providers to the same rate.

The Early Intervention Physiotherapy Framework (EIPF) fee schedule will no longer be active as of 1 February 2026 and physiotherapists who have been using these item codes will be transitioned to the updated fee schedule.

What physiotherapy providers need to do

Please update your billing systems to reflect the new fee codes and rates, from 1 February 2026.

These codes and rates must be used for all services delivered to TAC clients from 1 February 2026. The easiest way to do this is via the HICAPS Digital platform. HICAPS Digital will be updated to reflect the new fee schedule for physiotherapy services from 1 February 2026.

Services delivered prior to 1 February 2026 can still be billed at the current rates via HICAPS until 28 February 2026 and via manual billing for up to two years from the date of service in the same way you currently invoice the TAC.

There are no changes to the TAC service approval process, and this change does not impact any other TAC services or benefits.

Approval Requirements

  • Within the first 90 days of a client’s accident, and where the criteria mentioned in the descriptor are applicable, there is no need to contact the TAC for approval first. ​
  • After the initial 90-day period, approval to provide consultations must be requested via the Allied Health Treatment and Recovery Plan or as otherwise agreed with the Claims Manager and must be approved before services are delivered.

Travel
