Podiatry fees

Changes to the TAC podiatry fee schedule

On 1 December 2026, we are updating the TAC podiatry fee schedule and increasing published fees by up to 76%.

These updates recognise the critical role podiatrists play in the recovery and rehabilitation of TAC clients. They also aim to improve access to treatment and help reduce client gap payments.

The new TAC fee schedule for podiatry should be used for services delivered on and after 1 December 2026. Please use the 1/7/2026 - 30/12/2026 fee schedule for services delivered prior to this date.

The updated fee schedule will:

include new service and item number for attendance at a TAC meeting where the client is present.
include a new service and item number for completion of prosthetics treatment request form.
include a new service and item number for completion of an orthotic device request form.
consolidate the existing long and prolonged consultation item numbers into a single hourly service item.
include a new service and item number for travel in recognition of our commitment to road safety.
include clear item number descriptors for clarity and to support accurate billing.
align fees to reasonable market rates.

Existing item numbers within the current fee schedule have been retained. Please continue to use these same numbers with updated rates. New item numbers have been added for new services.

There have been no changes to fees for orthomechanical services and procedures, or podiatric surgery items.

What providers need to do

Please update your billing systems to reflect the new item numbers and rates.

These item numbers and rates must be used for all services delivered to TAC clients on and after 1 December 2026. The easiest way to do this is via the HICAPS digital platform, which has been updated to reflect the new fee schedule.

Services delivered prior to 1 December 2026 can still be manually billed for up to two years.

There are no changes to the TAC service approval process, and this change does not impact any other TAC services or benefits.

For assessment and treatment that cannot be adequately addressed in a standard consultation for a client who has either: Complex biomechanical presentations including bilateral conditions or multiple concurrent foot and ankle issues. Multiple lower-limb injuries or multi-site injuries requiring comprehensive assessment and intervention. Significant gait dysfunction requiring detailed assessment and management. High-risk foot presentations, including active wounds, ulceration, pressure-related issues or complex off-loading requirements. Bariatric clients where mobility limitations and clinical management requirements substantially increase the complexity of assessment and treatment.

Service and Approval Requirements

Approval Requirements

Initial, Standard and Extended Consultations

The treatment must be related to the client’s transport accident injuries and delivered in line with the Clinical Framework for the Delivery of Health Services

Within the first 90 days of a client’s accident, and where the criteria mentioned in the descriptor are applicable, there is no need to contact the TAC for approval first.

After the initial 90-day period, approval to provide consultations including the use of extended consultations must be requested via the Allied Health Treatment and Recovery Plan or in writing or as otherwise agreed with the Claims Manager and must be approved before services are delivered.

Travel

Within the first 90 days, and where the criteria mentioned in the descriptor are applicable, there is no need to contact the TAC for approval first.

After the initial 90-day period, approval to provide travel must be requested via the Allied Health Treatment and Recovery Plan or in writing or as otherwise agreed with the Claims Manager and must be approved before travel is provided.

Not for travel between clinics operated by the same operator
