MEDIA RELEASE: 18 December 2009

The TAC’s montage of 20 years of campaigns is helping motorists think twice about how they drive, by spreading its powerful road safety message online.

Since going live on YouTube on December 10, the montage has attracted more than 200,000 views.

The montage is part of the TAC’s YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/TAC, which showcases TAC advertisements created over the past 20 years, as well as the montage of the most memorable images from the campaigns.

The TAC’s Executive Manager Community Relations Phil Reed said the YouTube channel was another way to get the road safety message out to young people.

“Young Victorians are a key focus of our work as they are tragically over-represented in the road toll,” Mr Reed said.

“The YouTube is one of many ways the TAC is reaching out to young drivers,” Mr Reed said.

The best films from the Make a Film Make a Difference young filmmakers’ competition are also on the channel.

“In the lead up to Christmas we are looking at all avenues to ensure everyone takes care on the roads,” Mr Reed said.

“The 20 year montage at www.youtube.com/TAC has created a new level of interest and sends a very powerful message about how road trauma affects our community.”

“As the year draws to a close we are working closely with Victoria Police to help keep the roads safe. Remember, Victoria Police will catch you before somebody gets hurt,” Mr Reed said.

“We are on track to record the lowest road toll ever. But nearly 300 families will sit down to Christmas lunch with a loved one missing,” Mr Reed said.

“For everyone’s sake, drive safely this Christmas”.
