The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) is donating more than 233,000 advertising spaces to the Victorian community to help them get #Homesafely this Christmas.

The TAC and Melbourne's T20 Big Bash cricket teams have banded together to launch the unique #Homesafely initiative, through which Victorians can create their own road safety messages for their friends and family.

Melbourne Stars captain Shane Warne and Melbourne Renegades captain Aaron Finch have supported the call encouraging Victorians to become road safety ambassadors.

For the next three weeks, Victorians can remind someone they know to drive #Homesafely, with a personalised billboard near where they live or a message played on the radio.

This technology allows Victorians to submit their message at the #Homesafely website and choose where and when their message will appear.

The TAC CEO Janet Dore said the initiative was an opportunity to give family and friends the most powerful incentive of all, to take care on the roads.

"A heartfelt message from you to your son, daughter, Mum, Dad, sister, best mate will really motivate them to get home safely to you," Ms Dore said.

"You can choose to record your message and have it broadcast on Fox FM, at a time when your loved one is likely to be listening to the radio. Or you can select one of six billboards across Melbourne to screen your message at a time when they will be at that intersection."

By joining with the T20 Big Bash Melbourne teams to launch the initiative, the TAC hopes young men in particular will heed the messages of their loved ones.

Melbourne Stars CEO Clint Cooper said #Homesafely would capture cricket fans' attention, with the T20 Big Bash season in full swing and many fans following the team on Twitter.

"The Stars will be encouraging our fans to share road safety messages, particularly as they plan their travel to and from our home games," Mr Cooper said.

Melbourne Renegades CEO Stuart Coventry said the team's safety message would be broadcasting soon and players would support the campaign on Twitter.

"Through the @TACHomesafely Twitter handle, we will spread the word about #Homesafely and remind our loved ones to be safe on the roads over the festive season," Mr Coventry said.

The initiative will run until January 14th 2013. Messages for broadcast or billboards can be submitted at www.homesafely.com.au.
