One of the state's most unique art shows is calling on Victorian artists to pick up their paintbrushes, cameras and drawing pads.

Picture This exhibits work exclusively from entrants who have been affected by road trauma.

The Transport Accident Commission's (TAC) emotional and colourful exhibition will run from September 24 to October 13 at Gasworks Arts Park in Albert Park. Aspirants have until September 1 to submit their work for potential display.

Julie Grammatikos suffered a spinal injury in a car accident in 2009 and is looking forward to entering the competition again.

"I am studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts, but had stayed out of galleries following my accident," Julie said.

"However, being a part of Picture This last year was great as I was back in familiar waters.

"This competition is helping me grow as a result."

Works in previous years have told a story of road trauma through art, be it painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and even poetry.

Some of the exhibitors involved were artists before their accident, like Julie, while others have taken up the hobby in recovery.

TAC Chief Executive Officer Janet Dore said the TAC values the opportunity to engage with its clients through art.

"Art provides people with a tangible way to express the emotional trauma that often accompanies a transport accident," she said.

"Each piece of work provides a powerful insight into their individual journeys.

"Picture This is now in its fifth year and we look forward to seeing wonderful artwork for many more to come," Ms Dore said.

Artists have a chance to win the People's Choice Award as voted by exhibition visitors. The prizes are Art Supply vouchers worth $500, $250 or $100.
