Individual and Group Consultations

• The treatment must be related to the client’s transport accident injuries and delivered in line with the  Clinical Framework for the Delivery of Health Services

• Up to six sessions of psychology or neuropsychology within the first 90 days of a client’s accident can be provided without the need to contact the TAC for approval first

• Please submit a  Mental Health Treatment Plan at whichever point occurs first:

• Your client needs more than six sessions in the first 90 days after their accident, or

• Your client needs treatment beyond the first 90 days of their accident (regardless of how many sessions they have already had).

• Pre-approval must be obtained before treating clients who have not received funding for psychology or neuropsychology services within the first 90 days. A Mental Health Treatment Plan must be submitted after attending 3 sessions.

• Subsequent mental health treatment plans must document clear evidence of client need and progress toward goals for subsequent services.

• When the TAC client has not received treatment in the preceding 6 months, they need to seek approval from the TAC before further treatment. Providers should ask the TAC client for a copy of their approval if they haven’t seen them in 6 months.

Travel for Consultations

• Within the first 90 days or 6 sessions of treatment (whichever comes first), and where the criteria mentioned in the descriptor are applicable, ​there is no need to contact the TAC for approval first. ​

• After the initial 90-day period or 6 sessions of treatment (whichever comes first), approval to provide travel must be requested via the  Mental Health Treatment Plan or as otherwise agreed with the Claims Manager and must be approved before travel is provided.

• Not for travel between clinics operated by the same operator​

• Travel to be divided between clients where applicable

• Travel associated with family counselling cannot be paid for

Individual Counselling for Family Members

Counselling for family members is available for the client's spouse, partner, parent, grandparent, child or grandchild, brother or sister of the person who died or is severely injured as a result of an accident. Contact the TAC to check eligibility. A parent of a dependent child includes:

• a person who has day-to-day care and responsibility of the child, with whom the child is normally resident

• a guardian of the child

The TAC can also support immediate family members if a loved one has:

• a significant acquired brain injury

• paraplegia or quadriplegia

• amputation of an arm or leg

• burns to more than 50 percent of their body

• permanent blindness

• a brachial plexus injury

Counselling for family members can only be provided by a psychologist, doctor or qualified social worker, for further detail refer to Family Counselling support.

Completion of a Mental Health Treatment Plan

• Approval is not required but should not exceed required frequency.

Attendance at a TAC Team Meeting, Assessments and Reports

• Meeting attendance, at the request of the TAC where the TAC client (or proxy) is present. This item is not for Clinical Panel reviews (treater to treater phone contact).

Restrictive Practice: Behaviour Support Plan

• These items are for Behaviour Support Plans developed/reviewed by a neuropsychologist for the purpose of restrictive practice authorisation

• The Restrictive Practice Policy provides further information.

Mental Health (e-Therapy)

• Where recommended by the psychologist, a client can pay for this and seek reimbursement directly from the TAC.
