The TAC’s Annual Report was tabled in State Parliament today, highlighting a strong and sustainable accident insurance scheme, delivering critical support to people impacted by road trauma in Victoria.
In the 2024-25 financial year, the TAC funded $1.87 billion in care and benefits to support more than 43,000 people injured in an accident on Victorian roads – compared with $1.81 billion in 2023-24.
While the level of compensation for clients increased, the TAC maintained a strong financial position, recording an operating surplus of $1.13 billion. The operating result further underpins the TAC’s strengthened position to keep supporting its most injured clients into the future.
TAC Board Chair Samantha Smith said a key highlight of 2024-25 was the launch of the TAC’s corporate strategy, Make Every Day Matter, which provided a roadmap to deliver even better and more sustainable outcomes for clients, providers, our people and the community by 2030.
“The TAC is committed to continually improving its performance, and the Make Every Day Matter strategy outlines a clear pathway to deliver the best outcomes for our clients and the broader community,” Dr Smith said.
“The strong result in 2024-25 demonstrates we are on the right track to achieving the ambitious goals we’ve set for 2030.
“Despite our best efforts, and those of our road safety partners, 284 lives were lost on Victorian roads in 2024 – 11 fewer than the previous year. This tragic loss of life makes us more determined than ever to continue to invest and lead the way in promoting safe road use.”
In December 2024, the Victorian Government launched the Road Safety Action Plan 2. To support implementation of this plan, the TAC committed $350 million towards new initiatives outlined in the plan.
“Every life lost to road trauma is a tragedy and our hearts go out to those grieving the loss of a loved one,” Dr Smith said.
“Our resolve to prevent deaths and serious injuries on our roads remains unwavering as we work alongside the Victorian Government and our road safety partners.”
In 2024-25, the TAC invested $103.4 million in road safety and marketing initiatives, and a further $72.2 million toward road safety infrastructure.
